Conducted Improvisation

The conductor cues players using the following hand signals, then gives a downbeat. Players change to cued musical behavior on the downbeat.

HIT - Player makes one sound on the downbeat following this signal. The player performs a hit on every downbeat thereafter, until cued otherwise.

IMPROVISE - Player begins improvising on the downbeat following this signal.

NERVE EVENT - Player performs one short, spontaneous, miniature composition, approximately 3 to 5 seconds in length on the downbeat following this signal. Every succeeding Nerve Event for this player should be performed the same as the first.

STOP - Player stops current musical activity.
